What is Tadoba National Park famous for?
Tadoba National Park, also known as Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve, is renowned for its rich biodiversity and high chances of spotting Bengal tigers. It's one of India's oldest tiger reserves, spanning 1,727 sq km in Maharashtra's Chandrapur district, featuring teak forests, lakes, and over 200 bird species.
How many tigers are in Tadoba National Park?
As per recent estimates, Tadoba has around 115 tigers and 151 leopards across its core and buffer zones. Tiger sightings are frequent, especially near water bodies during summer.
What wildlife can I expect to see in Tadoba?
Besides tigers, you may spot leopards, sloth bears, wild dogs (dholes), Indian gaurs (bisons), sambar deer, spotted deer, crocodiles, and birds like the crested serpent eagle and peacock. The park also has diverse flora, including teak, bamboo, and mahua trees.
Which river flows through Tadoba National Park?
The Andhari River flows through the park, giving it part of its name. It supports the ecosystem with water sources like Tadoba Lake and Kolsa Lake.
Is Tadoba National Park open year-round?
The park is open from October 15 to June 30 each year and closed during the monsoon (July to September). It's also closed every Tuesday.
What is the best time to visit Tadoba National Park?
The ideal time is March to May for maximum tiger sightings near waterholes due to hot weather. October to February offers pleasant temperatures and lush greenery post-monsoon, great for birdwatching. Avoid monsoons (July-September) as the park is closed.
Is summer too hot for a visit?
Summers (March-May) can reach 40-45°C, but they're excellent for wildlife sightings as animals gather at water sources. Carry water, sunscreen, and light clothing; early morning safaris are cooler.
